STEPHENSON, James Fechet 86, of Tierra Verde, died July 14, 2013, at home. Born in Detroit, MI, he joined the Coast Guard in 1945, after which he received a degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University. Following graduation, he joined his father in the real estate and development business and shortly thereafter moved to St. Petersburg. Over the next thirty years, as President of Marina Land Co and Stephenson Manor Homes, Inc., he became one of the major developers of the Pinellas Point area of St. Petersburg including Stephenson Manor subdivision. He was a charter member of the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board; an active member of the St. Petersburg Board of Realtors for many years; a licensed building contractor and active member of the Contractors & Builders Assoc. of Pinellas County. He served on the St. Petersburg City Council from 1967-1971 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Florida National Bank from 1968-1978. His favorite recreation was boating & traveling to the Bahamas in the summers. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joan B. Stephenson; his daughter, Carey (Ronald) Joyner of St. Petersburg; his son, James F. (Hope) Stephenson Jr. of Palmetto; his daughter, Lisa (Guy) Pessina of Palmetto; a step-daughter, Elaine (Chip) Dupuy of Baton Rouge, LA; a step-son, Robert (Carolyn) Orr of Covington, GA; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
