GILHOOLEY, James P. age 79, passed away Dec. 31, 2013 after battling Parkinson's Disease and heart problems for over 20 years. He was born on Jan. 19, 1934 in Staten Island, NY and grew up in Cape May, NJ. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Gilhooley; his son, James P. Gilhooley IV; and daughter, Carole G. West, St Petersburg; 3 grandchildren, Nicole Briggle, Allison West and David West Jr.; and 2 great-grandchildren. He attended Drexel University before entering the Air Force in which he so proudly served for over 20 years as a Radar Navigator. As an air combat veteran of missions flown over North Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions occurring in Dec. 1972, during Operation Linebacker II. He has lived in St Petersburg since retiring from the military in 1975. He earned a degree in accounting from the University of Tampa and worked for the city of St. Petersburg until 1989. He was a member of the MOAA, the 13th Bomb Squadron Association, American Legion, and St. Petersburg Yacht Club. He will always be remembered for his tremendous devotions and love for his family, quick wit, great love of history, Airedales and sailing.
