EMERSON, LTC James R. "Jim" USA Ret., age 94, of Tampa, passed away June 10, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; and daughter, Patricia. James served as a commissioned officer in WWII and earned the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. James retired from the Army in 1960 and settled in Tampa with his wife and two children, Michael & Patricia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tampa, graduating at the top of his class in 1967. He retired from Flagship Bank after 20 years in 1981. He had many diverse interests: photography, bonsai gardening, fencing, sharp-shooting and stamp collecting. Even as a resident in nursing homes during his final months, he never lost his sense of being a gentleman. James is survived by his son, Michael J. Emerson (wife, JoAnn). A memorial service will held Monday, July 22nd, at 10:30 am, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home - Terrace Oaks Chapel, at 12690 North 56th Street, Tampa, FL 33617, (813) 988-9200, with visitation one hour prior to the service, followed by interment at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, at 1 pm.
