YGLESIAS, Joe C. 83, passed away Feb. 25, 2013. A native of Tampa, he provided 42 years of service to the Hillsborough County School Board where he served in numerous positions, ultimately as Director of Federal Finance & Accounting before retirement in 1995. During his career, he was active in civic affairs as a member of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce, organizer and member of the St. Patrick's Day Association, founding president and member of the West Tampa Sherife Association, past president of the West Tampa Lions Club, Educational & Research Consultant for the Mac Donald Training Center Research Foundation, member of the board of directors of the Hillsborough County Classroom Teacher's Association and numerous other civic and service organizations in Hillsborough County. During his long career, his accomplishments included fully integrating the first school in Florida VM Ybor and with the Department of Federal Programs and the Hillsborough County School Board, USF and the City of Tampa worked to design and implement Project Cope in Hillsborough County, the prelude to today's National Head Start Program. A graduate of the University of Tampa in 1952, he received his master's degree in education supervision and administration from the University of Florida in 1956. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Sara Ciccarello Yglesias; children, Karen Sheffield (Pat), Patti Tilchin, and Joseph Yglesias (Margie) and; grandchildren, Patrick, Sara, Amanda, Michael, Joey, Megan and Jeffrey. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at 12:30 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
