WAUGH, John Henry 81, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka, FL on Dec. 25, 2013 with loved ones by his side and Frank Sinatra crooning him to Heaven. John was born on Jan. 10, 1932 in Medford, MA to the late John Waugh and Lilly Stromme Waugh. As a young man, he loved competitive roller skating, creative drawing, and skiing: on snow and water at his family's Newfound Lake cottage in New Hampshire. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1949, John studied business at both, the University of Miami, FL and Babson College, Wellesley, MA. After college, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed overseas in Europe as a medic. Upon his return, John went to work for his family's business, Minuteman Radio, in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. In private life, he had a lifelong passion for airplanes, proudly flying his own Piper Cherokee in the 1970's. John relocated to the Florida Gulf Coast in the 1980's where he lived the remainder of his life. He was involved in various business ventures, but was most happy working with his hands remodeling houses with meticulous precision; a character trait that defined him. John is survived by his sister Dorothy Wrightson of Gloucester, MA; his children, Weston of Palm Harbor; 2 daughters, Whitney (Kevin) Warren and Wendy (Ralph) Kraus; 4 grandchildren, Carter and Lily Kraus and Kalyn and Carmela Warren, all of Bainbridge Island, WA; and his fiancé Nancy El-Hajj of Crescent City, FL. John waged a tough battle against heart disease, but always with a great sense of humor and an incredible will to live. He was a fun-loving man who could talk a blue streak and then some. He will be missed. John requested no funeral services. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka, FL.
