Obituary

RAY, John Rodgers 76, of Temple Terrace, passed away on March 26, 2013. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 1st at the Temple Terrace Church of Christ, where he was a member and served as an elder. There will be visitation beginning at 10 am, with the service to follow at noon. Mr. Ray was born in Mississippi to John & Mabel Ray. He graduated from Hazlehurst, MS, High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Auburn University, and a Master's Degree in Engineering from Louisiana State University. He spent the majority of his career working as a mechanical engineer in Chattanooga and Birmingham. After retiring, he subsequently worked as a Math Professor at Florida College in Temple Terrace. Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Shelton Ray, née Roper; sisters, Fay Broome and Alene Matthews; daughters, Ellen Ray North (Mark) & Margaret Ray Hammontree (Joe); and sons, John (Freddie), Will (Amanda), and David (Erin); and grandchildren, Richard, Matt, David & Maggie North, Corey Homberg, Jack & Charlie Ray, William, Elizabeth & Meredith Hammontree, and Sean, Morgan, Lilly & Aaron Ray. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and constant friend. Most of all, he was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Because of his service to Florida College, and his career in engineering, the family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Florida College (Akin Math & Science Project) 119 N.
