POWELL, John Vance, 77, of Land O' Lakes passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Vance was born in Gainesville Florida. He attended the PK Yonge Laboratory School at the University of Florida and graduated from Melrose High School. Vance started his career as a hospital corpsman in the Navy and received an MBA from Pepperdine University in California. Vance was a true entrepreneur and opened one of the first coin-operated laundries in Gainesville. He was a real estate broker, an appraiser and a land acquisition specialist. Vance loved Zig Ziglar and paraphrased him often. We can still hear him say, "When I go fishing, I bring the tartar sauce with me" and "See you at the Top... If you get there first throw me a rope!" Vance was quite the character. He was predeceased by his son, C. Link Powell and his parents, Zeb and Ruth Powell. He is survived by his son, Pascal (Nicole) Powell, his daughters, Robin (Ken Ruddock) Powell and Shannon (Roy) Vaughn and his sister, Bobby Ruth Powell. His surviving grandchildren are Jessica Ruddock, Wesley Vaughn and Tegan, Braxton and Isabella Powell. Vance will be affectionately remembered by all of his family and dear friends. Memorial services, officiated by Reverend David Kidd, will be held at the Eliam Cemetery in Melrose, Florida, on May 18, 2014 at 2pm. The service will be followed by a reception in Gainesville; the address and details will be given after the funeral. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the
