ORTIZ, Capt. Jose A. "Papa Joe" Passed away on Jan. 21, 2013. A resident of Apollo Beach for over 50 years, he was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Patillas, Puerto Rico. He is predeceased by his adoring wife, Rebecca Ortiz; & sister, Lyda Pacheco. Survived by his son, Kent Ortiz & daughter-in- law, Liz Collier-Ortiz; daughter, Dr. Carmen de Lourdes Ortiz; his brother, Jorge Ortiz; his sisters, Elba Berger, Eneida Rivera, Nelsie Aybar; and granddaughter, Andrea Nicole Ortiz; & great-granddaughter, Brenna Rae; many loving nieces & nephews. Proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 21 years. A veteran of WWII and Korean War, he retired from the City of Tampa Police Communications Dept., retired at the age of 83 from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Communications Dept. Funeral is Monday, Jan. 28th, at National Cremation & Burial Society, located at 308 E. College Ave, Ruskin, FL 33570, (813) 645-3231. Visitation from 1-2 pm, Service starting at 2 pm, followed by gravesite with Military Honors presentation. In lieu of flowers, donation to the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranch would be appreciated.
