PADGETT, Larry G. 68, of Lutz, passed away peacefully from heart complications Friday morning, Sept. 21, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at home. He is survived by his wife, Sue Padgett, of 48 yrs; and was preceded in death by their son, Jay Padgett. Larry was born Dec. 24, 1943 in Tampa. He graduated from Robinson High school in 1962, became a Firefighter for the City of Tampa, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 serving his country in the Vietnam War. He was decorated with the bronze star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. He became a Mason and then later a Shriner, was PastMaster of the J.F. Swartsel Lodge, #251 F.&A.M. in Lutz. He later entered into the Sign Industry and owned his own sign company, Distinctive Signs Inc., until he retired. In 1996, he carried the Olympic Torch in Tampa, which was one of the highlights in his life. He was recognized by the Board of County Commission for his outstanding contributions and service to the people of Hillsborough County from 1996-2005. In 2001, he served as Chairman and again was recognized by Hillsborough County EPC for his dedicated service to the citizens. He will be remembered for the difference he made in so many people's lives around the community and Lake Allen. He was such a leader for others and was loved for it. He loved people and life to the end. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends that he loved dearly. The family would like to thank James A. Haley Veterans Hospital for all the care in the last 30 years, as well as LifePath Hospice of North Hillsborough County for the care given in his last few days. The funeral service will take place Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, 12:30 pm at the Blount & Curry Carrollwood Chapel, with interment to follow at Garden of Memories cemetery.
