Obituary

MURPHY, Luther Perry, Jr. "L.P." DVM, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1924, in Coolidge, GA to Luther Perry Murphy and Emily Volena Murphy. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1944 he served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Thereafter, he graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1951. He practiced as a veterinarian for more than 50 years in Tampa, most of which as the owner of Murphy Animal Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy J. Murphy; daughters, Paula Callahan, Susan Kynes Baldwin (Trey), and Jane Murphy (Jim); grandchildren, Chad Callahan (Kelly), Jeff Callahan (Alina), Scott Callahan (Merridith), Lee Kynes (Helen), Katy Warren, Rebecca Kynes, Mason Baldwin, Caroline Murphy, Courtney Murphy and Matthew Murphy; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother, Lewis Murphy. His parents and his sisters, Nadine Borom, Inez White, Marie Megahee, Hope Baker, and Donita Turner predeceased him. He loved his family, the animals he cared for, and humbly and privately volunteered his time helping those less fortunate. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 12th at 11:30 am at Bayshore Baptist Church, 3111 W. Morrison Ave., Tampa, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bayshore Baptist Church.
