Obituary

BENTON, Mary Ray Sanders 79, of Brandon, joined her Heavenly Father on Sept. 11, 2013. Born Dec. 27, 1933, in Hartwell, GA, she is survived by her loving husband, Bill; daughters, Ginger Rivera (Mike), and Jill Ferguson (Mike); 5 grandchildren, Julianne Rill (Joe), Michael Rivera, Katie, Andrew, and Michael Ferguson; her brother, Freeman Sanders (Sue); dear brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mrs. Benton was a beloved elementary school teacher in Georgia for 30 years before retiring to Florida in 1999. She was an active church volunteer, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. In her retirement, she enjoyed quilting and was a devoted visitor of shut-ins. However, her greatest joy in retirement was being Nana. Her grandchildren would agree she was born to be a Nana. Services for Mrs. Benton will be Monday, Sept. 16 at 3 pm at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Brandon with the Reverend J. C. Powell officiating.
