STEPHENSON, Mary W. "Molly" 89, died Dec. 9, 2012, in Arlington, WA. She was the daughter of Brainard H. Warner Jr. and Mary Moore Warner of Chevy Chase, MD. She graduated from West Hampton College in 1944, moving to New York City where she worked for Western Electric as an expediter. After the war she applied to American Express for training as a tourist office manager in Washington, DC., Baltimore and Atlanta. A family emergency required a change of careers and she taught elementary school and obtained a Master's Degree in education at night from George Washington University. The Department of Defense hired her to teach the dependent children of military forces overseas where she ultimately met and married Jim Stephenson for a wonderful 54 years together. The couple recieved assignments in Washington State, UCLA, Blytheville, AR, Fairbanks, AK, and Omaha, NE, where Jim retired. In Alaska, Molly was named outstanding volunteer of the year by the Alaska Air Command. Following retirement the couple moved to Pinellas County, FL, where Molly was deeply involved in a number of social justice projects, particularly involving single parent families and children. She was a member of and president for one year of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Clearwater and an active member for many years. She was also a very active member of Skycrest Methodist Church in Clearwater. She was a member and enthusiastic backer of RCS, The Stepping Stones, Pinellas Village and The Cold Night Shelters'. Surviving family members include husband, Jim; son, Larry and family of Marysville, WA; also daughter, Susan and family members of Irvine, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA. A memorial service will be held Saturday Jan. 5, 2013, at Unitarian Universalist Church of Clearwater at 11 am.
