Ovidio "Obie" FERNANDEZ

FERNANDEZ, Ovidio "Obie" 90, of Tampa, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Obie is survived by two children, his son, Ivan Fernandez (Cynthia); and his daughter, Melinda Collado (Tony). Obie has three grandchildren, Craig Fernandez (DeeDee), Brian Fernandez, and Ashley Collado-Boreggo (David). Obie's wife, Alma Fernandez recently passed Dec. 1, 2012. They were married for 71 years. He was a loving husband and father and his family is very grateful for the time they had with him. We don't get to choose our parents and his family was very lucky to have parents that loved and cared for their children as much as they did. Obie will be remembered for his character and ability to befriend people and make them feel at ease. It seemed Obie knew everyone and everyone knew him. Obie's passions were people, fishing, and being outdoors surrounding by his loved ones. Obie was a veteran of World War II and worked most of his career, 43 years for Southern Wine & Spirits. He was a lifelong resident of Tampa. The family would like to show their deep appreciation to Agnes Wagacha and Cynthia Oelke for their devoted care of Obie during his last years. The services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 7 pm at the Gonzalez Funeral Home located at 7209 N Dale Mabry, Tampa, FL 33614, with a prior visitation beginning at 5 pm.
