LEGGETT, Robert James 92, of St. Mark Village, Palm Harbor, died Dec. 3, 2012. Born in Manchester, NH he moved here from Spring Hill in 2007. Although a native of New Hampshire he lived in Wisconsin for 25 years during his career with the Social Security Administration. He served for 12 years as a District Manager in LaCrosse, WI, where he was an active member of the Rotary Club. Previous to that, he worked for 15 years at New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company, where he met his wife, Phyllis. He served 3½ years in the Army Air Corp during World War II flying 73 combat missions in the Central Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 5 Air Metals, The Asiatic Pacific Medal with two major battle stars, as well as the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a son, Richard; and two grandchildren, David and Heather Leggett. His interests included tennis, golf, gardening and a love of birds. He was also an accomplished landscape artist who won many awards. His warm smile and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. A Memorial service will be held at St. Mark Village Chapel, 2655 Nebraska Ave., Palm Harbor Dec. 10, at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery, arrangements to be made by the National Cremation Society. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark Village continuing Care Fund.
