CURLIN, Roger Buchanan 85, of University Park, surrounded by family and friends, left for Heaven Thursday morning, Sept. 26, 2013, in Sarasota. Roger was a tree of life. He nourished, sheltered, and helped influence so many lives. A World War II Navy veteran, Roger was a native of Tampa, born Dec. 9, 1927. He owned and ran R.B. Curlin, Inc., a successful Tampa-based company, which recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. Roger loved landscaping, fishing, golf, the arts, poetry, and always appreciated spending time with family and friends. After many years in Tampa, Roger and his wife, Karen, enjoyed time between Boone/Blowing Rock, NC and Sarasota where they were members of First Baptist Sarasota and Blowing Rock Methodist, where Roger was recently named Member Emeritus of their official board. During life, he flew his own plane, sailed their 45' boat, traveled the world, and loved elegant cars. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen Hosack-Curlin; children, Mary Beth McKinney, Melanie Geiger, Roger (Buck) Curlin III, Tim Curlin; sister, Sylvia Boyd; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and his beloved Cocker Spaniel, Casey. The family sends special appreciation to everyone who helped care for Roger these last few years. It meant the world to him to have you around. Services will be held at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, with a 2 pm viewing / 3 pm service, Tuesday, Oct. 1. All are invited to attend, a reception to follow nearby.
