MILLER, Roger R. Born July 5, 1923 at home in Columbia City, IN, to Edward W. and Dorothy Ries Miller, deceased. A brother, Edward W. Junior, deceased in childhood. He was reared in Whitley County, IN, and graduated in a class of 16 from high school in 1940. He was active in the 4H programs and won many awards with his live stock projects. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII from 1943 to 1946 in Alaska and Calcutta, India in the 508th Transportation Corp. He married Patricia Jordan in 1950. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1951 and also attended Indiana University School of Law for two years. He was employed by United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company as Claims Manager in Peoria, IL, until 1956 and from 1956 to 1977, Roger was employed in a financial executive and management capacity for major companies: ITT, RCA, HUFFMAN MANUFACTURING COMPANY and BEATRICE FOODS. He coached Little League Baseball for several years while living in New Concord, OH. He remained an ardent fan of all major sporting events and especially enjoyed the college games. In 1977, the family relocated to Dunedin, and Roger became Broker/Owner of Mark VIII Realty Company specializing in commercial real estate mergers and acquisitions. He owned this business for over 30 years before retiring. Survivors include wife, Patricia of 63 years; son, David W. of Farmersville, OH, & wife, Sue; and granddaughter, Erica Priest, & husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Jace; grandson, Mark Miller; and great-grandchildren, Kyle and Mia; daughters, Annette Lawrence, Dunedin and Amy Craft, & husband, Dan; and granddaughters, Ashlee and Cierra, Hudson. A son, Stephen, preceded Roger in death in 2004. Roger was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of Good Samaritan where he served on the vestry for 8 years and served as Senior Warden. He served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for 11 years. In 1997 the family transferred to St. Alfred's Episcopal Church. In 2013 he became a member of St. Michael Anglican Church. Roger was an avid reader of financial news, both national and worldwide. He loved being outdoors and working in the yard in the many flower beds. He loved the beauty of the beach and all of Honeymoon Island State Park. All of the family pets and present companion dog Penny have always been cherished. The family will received friends on Friday, March 7, from 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will follow on Saturday at 2 pm, with entombment at the Peacefield Mausoleum at Sylvan Abbey.
