TIPTON, Walter Glenn 88, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, at his home in Arden, NC. A native of St. Petersburg, FL, he moved to Arden in 1969 after he retired from the St. Petersburg Police Dept. following 20 years of service as Assistant Chief of Police and Captain of Detectives. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy, Keeler Polygraph Institute in Chicago, Southern Police Institute in Louisville, KY and Northwestern Traffic Institute in Evanston, IL. He served as past president of the Florida Chapter of the FBI. He was a Mason for 63 years, was a Rotarian and a member of Arden Presbyterian Church. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII, having served from 1943 to 1946 in Guam, China and at the battle of Okinawa. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Bette, son David and daughter Kathleen Stetson, sister Jeanne Tipton, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
