O'DONNELL, William J. "Willie O", Lt. Col. (Ret.) age 93, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1964, retiring from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Willie O was a P51 fighter pilot in WWII and flew the F51 and F80 in Korea. He was awarded numerous medals including the Air Medal with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters; Distinguished Flying Cross; Croix DeGuerre with Silver Star; Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Presidential Unit Citation. Willie O was an avid golfer at Bay Palms Golf complex at MacDill Air Force Base and a proud member of the QB (Quiet Bird-men) club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth G. O'Donnell. Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen O'Donnell, Auburn, AL; and his grand-daughters, Samantha Wall (Ryan) and Melanie Jo Trouse.
