WALTER, William Robert "Bill" 90, of Tampa, died Feb. 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Born May 26, 1923, in Kitchener, Canada, he was the son of the late Leo Walter and Mary (Kopf) Walter. He was raised in Pittsburgh, PA, before making St.Pete/Tampa his home in 1959. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He married Elizabeth (Tait) Walter, in 1947. They were married for 35 years and had five children before Elizabeth passed away 1982. He is preceded in death by his second wife, Joan Wood Walter; his two sons, Jack and Richard Walter; and two sisters, Ruth Wenning and Marion Lowe. He is survived by his two sons, William (Doreen), David (Jeanne); daughter, Linda Patry (John); sister, Betty McClure; and daughter-in-law, Mary Walter (Jack); grandsons and granddaughters, Rachel Zattosky, Jessica Cruz (Eddie), Nicole Showalter (Scott), Matthew Walter (Amy), Wendy Walter, Chad and Josh Patry, Joel, Brittany and Raquel Walter and Julie Weston; great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, Alexis Rodriquez, David Cruz, Stosh Zattosky, Ashton, Grayson and Ryan Showalter, Julianna, Jack, Isaac and Ezra Walter. Bill was a three sport varsity player in High School (Football, Wrestling and Boxing). Bill served as a lieutenant in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and received the Atlantic War Zone Bar and Mediterranean - Middle East War Zone Bar. Following his service, he earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh, in 1949. He owned his own Pharmacy in St. Pete (Park Drugs) before selling his business and working for Eckerd Drugs, Walgreens and Merck. He was appointed as Internship Preceptor for the University of Florida in 1980. He had a great sense of humor who loved music, reading, sports, fishing, yard work and spending time with his family. A private service will be held to celebrate the life of a man who will be greatly missed.
