Gibson, Harlen M. Sarge, Sgt. Maj. U.S. Army (ret.) Saturday, May 3, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Harriet Juanita Gibson; 14-year companion of Patricia Martin; dearest father of Harlen M. Tim Gibson Jr.; dear grandfather of Erica (Ben) Guittar; brother of Ed, Ron, Don and George and the late Clara, Lou Ann and Della Ruth. Harlen was preceded in death by his parents Hayes and Clara Gibson. Our dear brotherin-law, uncle, great-uncle and cousin. A friend of many, here and afar, having served his country on 4 continents, in 12 countries, on 8 islands and many states. Prior to his assignment to Vietnam, Harlen was a Military Science instructor at Washington University for five school years, 1964-65 to 1968-69. He earned two awards of the Combat Infantry Badge, first in Korea with the 3rd Infantry Division in 1953 and the second one in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division in 1969. In addition, Harlen earned numerous other awards, citations and commendations during his 27 years, 11 months and 2 days of military service. Sgt. Maj. Gibson retired from the Army in 1974. He then was employed by Gold Bond Building Products, a division of National Gypsum Company at their distribution center located in the Westport Industrial Area, retiring for the second time 12 years later in 1986. Harlen was a member of the Masonic Lodge 555 in Ft. Smith Arkansas for over 45 years. He also was a member of the VFW Post 3944 OverlandSt. Ann, the 88th Infantry Division Association and a charter member of M.L. Regulars. Services: Service Thursday, May 8, 9:30 a.m. at COLLIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd. (St. Ann). Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
