Burke, Jr., Leo Joseph age 87, of Lake Ozark, MO, formerly of Belleville, IL, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his residence. Leo was born on January 15, 1927 in East St. Louis, IL. Leo attended Southern Illinois University and was a retired Financial Services Vice President for the Pioneer Group, Inc. in Boston, MA. Leo was a U.S. Navy veteran in receipt of the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a former member of the Missouri Athletic Club and St. Louis Stadium Club, as well as the Westhaven Bath & Tennis Club, Oak Hill Tennis Club and St. Clair Tennis Club. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Ozark, MO. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Joseph Burke, Sr. and Serena Helen, nee Anderson, and his siblings, Dorothy Burke Roewe, William Henry and Daniel Robert Burke. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret Burke, nee Hyland; son, Daniel T. Burke, Eldon, MO; daughter, Maureen Burke Lehman and son-in-law, Joseph A. Lehman, Leawood, KS; adopted daughter, Karen Short, Chicago, IL; and beloved caregiver, Linda Kirby, Lake Ozark, MO. He is also survived by a dear sister-in-law, Carla Hyland; three step-grand children, Joseph, Sarah and Abigail Lehman; many dear nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, P.O. Box 2390, Lake Ozark, MO 65049; phone 573-365-2241. Visitation: Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. Funeral: A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. Interment of cremains will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
