Sewell, Raymond F, PhD of Ballwin passed away peacefully from this life, February 6, 2013 at the age of 89. Son of the late James N. Sewell and Callie Page Sewell of Sefner, Fla. Raymond was preceded in death by siblings James N. Sewell Jr. of Miami, Fla., Leon Sewell of Apopka, Fla., and June (Sewell) Perry of Louisville, Ky. He is survived by sibling Genevieve (Sewell) Nichols of Cincinnati, Ohio, his beloved wife and partner of 61 years Joyce Carter Sewell as well as daughters Sandra (Herbert) Tschannen of St. Charles, Mo. and Karla Rae Sewell of Dittmer, Mo., sons Darrell (Gloria) Sewell of Florissant, Mo., Alan (Sharon) Sewell of Bonne Terre, Mo., Kenneth (Wendy) Sewell of Ballwin, Mo. and stepson Harry M. Tyson Jr. of Greensboro, Ga., also 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Raymond served in the US Navy in the Pacific theater during WWII ('42-'45) before returning to Mars Hill College - North Carolina to continue studies begun before service in the Navy. He matriculated at the University of FloridaGainesville where he earned both Baccalaureate and Master of Science degrees. He attended Cornell University of Ithaca, N.Y. where he received a Doctoral degree in Biochemistry and Animal Sciences in June of 1951. He was appointed to the staff of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. where he served as a professor in the Department of Animal Science and the School of Veterinary Medicine for 15 years. He was employed by Ralston Purina Co. of St. Louis, Mo. where he held the position of Director of Livestock Research until his retirement in 1978. During retirement he served as Director of Technical Services for Cosby-Hodges Milling Co. of Birmingham, AL and established Sewell Consulting Services. He was most proud of his 40+ years of service as a Sunday School teacher at his local Baptist Church where he provided witness to others of his acceptance of his Savior, Jesus Christ some 78 years prior. To this end, we celebrate his passing and commend him to his Maker. Services: Funeral service at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Friday, 4:00 p.m. Interment Private.
