Shapiro, Robert D. Robert D. Shapiro passed away March 7, 2014 at the age of 85. Robert was married to the love of his life, Aileen, for nearly 61 years. Loving father of Rand Shapiro and Lynn (Neil) Landow, dear grandfather of Dr. Julie Shapiro, Stacy Shapiro, Jeffrey Landow, and Jason Landow. Robert graduated from the University of Illinois with great fondness for his alma mater. After college, he enlisted in the Air Force and was assigned to Scott Air Force Base, where he served as the editor of the base newspaper. Upon completing his service, he joined Industrial Soap Company, and soon became President, managing the company for over 40 years. Robert also served on the Board of Directors of Mers Goodwill. Through the years, Robert and Aileen enjoyed traveling and cruising throughout the world. Robert was a connoisseur of fine art and antiquities. He will be most remembered as a raconteur who reveled in telling jokes, a master of crossword puzzles, and for the obscure trivia questions he delighted in posing to family and friends; with his amazing memory, no fact was ever forgotten. For those who knew and loved Bob, the world will never be the same. Services: Funeral service Monday, March 10th, 1:00 PM at Congregation Shaare Emeth, Ladue and Ballas Roads. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM. Interment at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Louis Art Museum, the Scholarship Foundation, or the St. Louis Zoo. Visit for more information. BERGER MEMORIAL CHAPEL
