Beck, Wallace J. 1929 - 2013 The Salt of the Earth - The Milk of Human Kindness - One of Nature's Noblemen! Wallace J. Beck was born in Rock Island, IL to Walter Beck and Dorothy Marie Lindquist. After high school, he attended Augustana College, and then graduated in 1951 from University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Walt spent two years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Anna W. Mayer in 1956; she was the love of his life. He was employed at McDonnellDouglas, now Boeing, as an engineer for 34 years, working primarily on fuel systems for fighter aircraft. Walt loved being outdoors, especially camping and fishing while being surrounded by his family. His favorite event was the annual pilgrimage to southwest Ontario, Canada for a fishing trip, an event seldom missed for almost 60 years and looked forward to by his children and grandchildren. He would often say with a genuine smile that, The fishing was great, though the catching left something to be desired. He was an avid reader with a remarkable passion for American history. He had a knack for resourcefully fixing things, solving problems, and enjoyed a cold 905 beer and a hot tub. Above all else, Walt cherished time with his beloved wife, kids and grandkids. His gentle, good spirit, quiet presence and endearing, quirky humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Walt is survived by his wife Anna; children Katy Beck (John Hatten), Walter Beck (Lorrie) and Lisa Beck (Daniel Kirkpatrick); grandchildren Maya, Frieda, Matthew, Hayden, Galen, Grant and Anna.
