Walter Jacob Maurer Obituary
Maurer, Walter Jacob Born January 17, 1939, St. Louis, MO - died November 22, 2012, Eureka, MO. Walter was born at Christian Hospital, St. Louis, MO to Ella (nee Kieffer) and Walter J. Maurer Sr. He was raised in the Ferguson, MO area, attending local schools including Ferguson High School. After graduation he took college courses at Washington University, St. Louis, University of Minnesota and graduated in 1963 with a B.S. in Anatomy & Physiology from Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO. About that time he also married Jackie (nee Bauer) Maurer also a student at Culver Stockton. Jackie left school and they moved to Dallas, Texas where Walter hoped to continue his education in the Mortuary Science industry. After about 2 years of that he and Jackie returned to MO, buying a house in Jackie's old neighborhood in Kansas City. They lived there for about 13 years. During this time frame, Walter worked for Sears, Roebuck and Metropolitan Life. About 1970 he took a part time job with RGIS Inventory Service and RGIS soon recognized his good work and promoted him. Also in 1970 he and Jackie had a son, Christopher E. Maurer, born in Kansas City. In 1979 he was further promoted to Operations Manager and transferred to Los Angeles, CA. So the three of them lived in Westlake Village, CA until the last 5 years of his life. They them moved back to the St. Louis area (Eureka) to be near his sister Barbara Jene and her husband Robert Roux of Fenton, MO. Walter was a good man, a fine husband and father, and a decent, honest and fair person. It's doubtful that there is anyone who would have an unkind word to say of him. He devoted his entire life to doing his very best at his profession and taking care of his family. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Al Malika Shrine, L.A., CA and the Conejo Valley Masons and Conejo Valley Shrine Club and Pasadena Scottish Rite. He was very interested in these organization, but was not able to participate as much as he would have like due to his lifelong work schedule. One outside interest he loved was fishing, so a funny story must be told here about his fishing escapades. He sliced open the back of his head with his own knife while trying to swat at a persistent horse fly who was trying to land on his head. When he hit at the fly, he failed to take into consideration that he was holding a fish-boning knife and the aftermath required 16 stitches to patch him up. The horse fly got away! He was kidded for years about that one. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Jackie, of the home in Eureka, MO, also of the home his precious pearl Dalmatian Valentine (who still watches the door for him to come home), his son Christopher and wife Jenny of Sherman Oaks, CA and one grandchild Emma Maurer also of Sherman Oaks. His beloved sister Barbara and her husband Robert Roux, who have been by Walter's side since the moment of his illness. Also two nieces, Jill and her husband Keith Collins of L.A., and Rebecca and Chad Holloway, a great niece Ashley and great nephews Clayton and Frankie, and various cousins and second cousins. He died at Price Memorial Nursing Home in Eureka of varying medical effects of dementia. They took wonderful care of him and the family want all of the staff and nurses to know how much Walter's family appreciates them. Services: Visitation Saturday, November 24, 2012, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Kriegshauser West, 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, with a prayer service at 12 noon. Friends desiring, memorials may be made to King of Kings Lutheran Church Organ Fund or to Shriners Hospital for Children.
