WAITS, Burl Wesley Sacramento attorney Burl Wesley Waits died August 21st at the age of 83. A graduate of McGeorge School of Law, Burl practiced law 40 years in South Sacramento. Burl leaves his wife of 12 years, Diane Lowe and his children Timothy (Linda) Waits, James (Kim) Waits, Linda (Bill) Hibbard and Karen Morcomb. Burl was preceded In death by Joan Scruggs Waits, his wife of 49 years and mother of his four children, his brother Lionel Waits, step-sister Patsy Sue Smith and step-brother Fay Smith. Burl had 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Burl also leaves 6 step-children, 10 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Burl was born In Oklahoma on December 7, 1930. He moved to Greenville, California in 1941 and served In the US Marine Corps, earning 2 purple hearts in the Korean War. Burl was a great networker. He was instrumental in forming several nonprofit organizations, Including Process Learning Center, California Automobile Association, Kiwanis Family House, The Aquarian Effort, Sacramento Literacy Council, National Speakers Association- Sacramento Chapter, South Sacramento- Greenhaven Chamber of Commerce and Education and The Discovery Museum Science and Space Center. He was co-founder of the California Automobile Museum. He took pride In passing the Law School entrance exam without attending college. Prior to practicing law, Burl worked at Proctor and Gamble where he led the Workers Labor Union and was Influential In organizing the P&G Labor Unions throughout the United States. In later years, Burl was owner/manager of VC International, a video conferencing business. Visitation will be hold on Monday, August 25 from 11:00 AM - Noon. A Funeral Service will begin at Noon at George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Graveside services will be at Greenville District Cemetery, 133 Hideaway Road, Greenville, CA on Tuesday, August 26 at Noon. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the or Alzheimer's Association of Northern California.
