Chung H. Youn

Chung H. Youn passed away peacefully on December 28, 2013 with his family at his side. Chung was born on July 31, 1927 in Seoul, Korea to In Sang and Yong K. Youn, and was the oldest of seven children. Despite the challenges presented during the Japanese occupation, Chung excelled in academia, attending Seoul National University. He recognized the need for shipbuilding capabilities in Korea as there were none on the entire peninsula and left Korea to pursue graduate studies in naval architecture and marine engineering at The University of Michigan. Chung was a pioneer in the shipbuilding industry in Korea and also made significant contributions to several industrial technologies in the United States. He is survived by his wife, Young Hee Youn, and his children, Elizabeth, Baron, James, Michelle, and their families.
