WILLIAMSON, Daniel Raymond
Williamson was born on October 21st, 1943, in Birmingham, AL, to Dulcie May Smith Williamson and Raymond Oscar (Dutch) Williamson. He died on July 11th, 2013, of an apparent heart attack while walking between his favorite fishing spot and the car near the Little Truckee River in Sierra County, CA. Those of us experiencing the shock of this sudden loss are comforted by knowing that Dan was doing the thing he loved best in a spot where he frequently went, not only for recreation, but for spiritual renewal and reflection. After growing up in Birmingham, Dan earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Journalism from the University of Alabama. While serving his country as a United States Air Force officer, Dan met his future wife and was married to Diane Miller Williamson on August 3rd, 1968. They were about to celebrate 45 years of devoted marriage. In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by a sister, Patsy Williamson of Pittsburgh, PA, by three adult children, John Williamson, Barbara Paulsen, and Tim Williamson, and by three grandchildren, Kaysa, Mizuki and Karen.
After getting out of the Air Force, Dan worked in the Journalism field for many years, as a newspaper reporter, author, magazine and information specialist for the Department of Agriculture, and a professor at the college level. While living in Fairfax, VA, and working in Washington, D.C., Dan received the call to go to seminary. He and Diane packed up their three children and moved to a small town outside Pittsburgh, PA, to attend Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. Dan served as an Episcopal priest in California for more than 25 years, first in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles at All Saints, Long Beach, and St. John's in LaVerne. The family moved to Roseville in 1994, where Dan served as Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church until his retirement in 2008. While serving at St. John's, the vision of relocating the church to its beautiful new building in west Roseville was undertaken and completed. After retiring, Dan was called back into service as Priest in charge of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Auburn on a part-time basis.
A lover of travel and a history buff, Dan enjoyed many wonderful trips with Diane throughout their years of marriage. She will hold dear the memories of these trips to places like Rome, the British Isles, the Caribbean, Canada, Alaska and Israel. A devoted husband, family man and Priest, Dan will be missed by many.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roseville, CA, on Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m., and all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church building fund or to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Auburn.
