Elaine Marie Somogyi, 67, passed away peacefully at home July 1 surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. July 8 at Holy Trinity Parish in El Dorado Hills. Elaine was born Jan. 3, 1947 in Cleveland. She loved all forms of learning and knowledge, securing degrees from Beloit College, Northwestern University and John Marshall Law School. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand and later worked as a medical technologist, teacher and attorney. She was also a loving mother and wife. Elaine met her husband, Sam, in Hawaii in 1969 and they were married in Cleveland in 1972. They have three children. Elaine lived in El Dorado Hills since 1985 and most recently was an attorney for the El Dorado County Department of Child Support Services. It was nearly impossible to tear her away from a museum, sunset, bookstore, recipe or San Francisco Giants game. She took university courses online until the final stages of her lengthy illness. She embraced her Catholic faith and set an example of love for everyone she met. Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Sam Sorich, and her children: Sonya, Simon and Serena Sorich. She is also survived by her brothers Frank and Jim, brother-in-law Steve Sorich and sisters-in-law Marge Dowling and Kathy Sorich. She leaves behind nieces and nephews including John and Charles Bucalo, Tom and Steve Dowling, Tricia Dowling Suchodolski, Michael and Megan Sorich and David Rogowski. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eleanore Somogyi, as well as her sister Patricia Somogyi, with whom she shared a friendship that transcended the limits of geography and long-distance phone bills.
