FALZARANO, Elmo ""Al'
Born in Saugus, MA in 1917 to John and Maria Falzarano. He passed away April 8th at the age of 95, in Roseville, CA. He lived most of his life in Saugus, where he and his wife Irene, who passed away in 1991, raised their family. Al is survived by his daughter Ann, of Incline Village, NV, his son Bruce, daughter-in-law Diane, and granddaughters Lauren and Claire, all of Roseville CA. He is also survived by his sister Gloria Peluso of Peabody.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Frank, Clement, Salvatore, Vincent, and John, as well as sisters Rose, Flora, Amelia, Mary, and Lucille.
He was a graduate of Boston University and Bentley College. Al served in the Marine Corps as an officer and fighter pilot in WWII and Korea, attaining the rank of Major, prior to his honorable discharge following the Korean conflict. After the Service, he became a career teacher and department head at Saugus High School, and before SHS at the Parlin Junior High in Everett. He retired from SHS in 1989. After his retirement, he became a fixture at the VFW in Saugus, helping out at Bingo and enjoying the friendship of many of his fellow veterans. He loved gardening, sharing his fresh fruits and vegetables with family and friends for decades. In the winter, he loved to ski, and continued to do so well into his mid 80's. Throughout his life Al followed the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a Fenway Faithful and a part of the Red Sox Nation in the truest sense, keeping up with his team no matter where in the country or the world he was living. His final days were punctuated by his joy at the Red Sox beating the Yankees in the first two games of the 2013 season. Visitation will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, MA with honors, on April 27th from 12-1PM, followed by a graveside service at 1:15PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saugus chapter of the VFW.

To Al's family,
I met your Dad when he was in his 80's and had the honor of traveling with him on a few trips with mutual friends. He was a wonderful man, who loved to share all his stories. Always had a smile and a true gentleman. I will cherish my memories of him.
Please find comfort in knowing that he spoke of both his children with the highest regard and loved you dearly.

I graduated from SHS in the early 80s. I have remembered Mr. Falzarano all these years, as he was genuinely kind and so pleasant to everyone and I enjoyed many conversations with him. Over the past 30 years, whenever I heard Barbara Streisand, I'd think of him just because he once told me how clear, precise and beautiful he thought her voice was; "she hits every note just so with such clarity". Funny the things you remember. He was a dear man who will not be forgotten.
