Helen was born in 1936 in Sacramento California to parents of Swiss heritage, Ernest & Hedy Aeppli. She was raised in Sierra Oaks Vista and grew up with many life-long friends. As a popular student at El Camino High School, she held numerous student body offices, was an honor student, and took an interest in being a reporter the high school radio show at a local radio station. After high school she attended San Jose State College and majored in radio & television production.
Helen met her future husband, Ken Bridges, on the beach at Lake Tahoe. They were married in 1955 after Ken completed his Naval Aviator Training. They moved to Milton Florida were Ken was a flight instructor and then moved back the Sacramento area in 1957. While raising their 2 children, she was very active in community affairs. She was a member of Sutter Hospital Association, Sacramento Childrens Home Guild, Roseville Community Project & Cultural Arts. She also moderated a show on the Arts at KVIE PBS. Helen was also a fashion model and worked several shows at community events and local fashion stores.
Helen returned to complete her college education at 36 years old with a Bachelors Degree in Media. While in college she interned at Sacramento Channel 10 in community affairs as a writer. After her graduation, she worked as an account executive and later Sales Manager for KHYL FM and KAHI AM. Helen also became a University of Cal Master Gardener.
Helen, and her husband Ken, enjoyed traveling and spending time at their west shore vacation home on Lake Tahoe with family and friends. Their favorite times were racing across the lake in their speedboat the Blue Max.
Helen is survived by her loving husband Ken of 58 years, her daughter Lori Kim Polk, her son Scott Bridges and wife Kathy. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren, Nicole Polk, Tyler Polk, Alyssa Bridges, and Daniel Bridges along with 3 great grandsons.
