RAMSETH, Irene Priscilla Hompland Welch
went peacefully to her Savior on Sunday March 2, 2014. She was 95 years of age. She was born in Henan Province, China September 3, 1918, the daughter of Lutheran missionaries. She attended the American School at Kikungshan through high school and came to the US in 1937 where she attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She received her masters' degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve and subsequently placed first in the State of Ohio nursing board examinations. After graduation she joined the U.S. Navy as Lieutenant J.G. stationed at Balboa Park in San Diego. It was here that she met and married William Jean Welch, a fellow instructor in the medical corps. After WWII, William finished medical school, and they subsequently came to Sacramento in 1959 where he established his medical practice. They were among the founding members of Sacramento Country Day School. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she became the first woman president of the congregation. She was also an inventor, holding 3 patents for ingenious household devices. After the death of her first husband in 1985, she married Rudolph Ramseth in 1987. They spent 26 blissful years together, traveling widely and enjoying life. She is survived by her husband, 2 sisters, 4 children, 5 stepchildren 22 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday March 15, 2014 at 11AM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 1615 Morse Ave, Sacramento 95825.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer remembrances to Good Shepherd or China Services Ventures, 1407 Cleveland Ave North, St. Paul, MN 55108
