McGREW, James Daniel
3/29/1919 - 1/9/2013
James McGrew was born in Sacramento on 3/29/1919 and passed away on 1/9/2013. James and his wife, Laline L. (Slippy) McGrew celebrated 71 years of marriage on 11/15/2012. He was a devoted husband and carried a 1941 photo of Laline in his wallet and always saw her as the beautiful young girl he had married in 1941. They had married following James' discharge from his first tour of duty in the US Navy; he re-enlisted a month later following Peal Harbor, being discharged in 1945. They relocated to Elverta from Fort Ross in 1948. He was an active member of the Elverta Volunteer Fire Dept from 1948 to 1978; having served as both Fire Commissioner and Fire Chief. He built a successful hay and straw business, invented, patented and sold Fid-O splicing tools at trade shows and by mail order. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Janette, Loretta (Richard), and Janeen (William); 3 grandchildren, Murray Flock, Trina Baum, and Kari Thomas and two great granddaughters Alexa and Hailey Thomas. He was admired for his strong never tiring work ethic and for the respect and fairness he showed in all his business and personal dealings. At his direction there will be no services. If you care to honor James with a donation the family suggests the SSPCA at www.sspca.org in recognition of his love of animals.
