John Akerly passed away peacefully on February 7, 2014 in Renton, WA. He was 76. John was born in Sacramento on Jan.25, 1938 and raised in the city. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, attended elementary school there and also Christian Brothers before graduating in 1957 from Bishop Armstrong HS. He married his wife of 53 years, Patricia, in Sacramento on June 11, 1960. John was a 49ers fan when he was young, but loved seeing the Seahawks win the Super Bowl this year. More than anything , he loved his wife and his family. He was a gentle soul but also tough and strong, and served his nation proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He was preceded in death many years ago by his parents, Lloyd and Frances, also of Sacramento and by the grandmother who raised him, Sarah Berg. His wife Patricia (DeMartini) survives him, as does son David Akerly (Mary Ann) of Lansing, Michigan, daughter Kathleen Cladek (Todd) of Issaquah, Washington along with grandchildren Ethan, Elizabeth, Olivia, Alexandra, Amber and Maxwell, his aunt Virginia (Akerly) Kopchak and numerous cousins in the Sacramento area.
