MARTIN, Jr., John W.
60 of Sonora, CA passed away peace- fully in his home on February 7, 2014 after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born in Richmond, CA to Vera and John W. Martin Sr. on February 1, 1954.
John graduated from Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento in 1972. He began his career in State Services in 1975. He later transferred to the California Department of Corrections working at several state prisons. He retired from his career at Sierra Conservation Center as an Associate Warden in August of 2007.
John met his wife, Melody Jacobson, while working at Centinela State Prison in El Centro, CA. They married on September 14, 1996 at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia, CA.
John enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer with a single digit handicap. He and his wife were members of the Mountain Springs Golf Club, the Saddle Creek Golf Resort and the Elks Lodge. After retirement, John spent most days in his bass boat on New Melones Reservoir.
John is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Peterson. John is survived by his loving wife Melody; his loving sister Lynda Meckley, husband Dale); uncle Thomas Martin, wife Marceline; father-in-law Franklin Jacobson; mother-in-law Beverly Jacobson; brother-in-law Steven Jacobson; sister-in-law Lea Jacobson, husband Merle Frank; nephew Jeffrey Peterson, wife Lorrie; nephew Scott Peterson, wife Jill; nephew Maxx Jacobson; nephew Robert Martin; niece Racquel Hofer, husband Mark; niece Stevie Spillers, husband Dr. Jeff Spillers; niece Klanci Gauthier, husband Evan; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend John's celebration of life on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Saddle Creek Golf Resort, 1001 Saddle Creek Drive, Copperopolis, CA 95228.
