HEBERT, Joseph Joseph Hebert passed away peacefully on June 22, 2014 in Capitola, CA. He was 88. His son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kim, were at his side when he passed. He was born in Hartford, CT on January 24, 1926. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Elaine. He met her in December 1945 in Washington, DC while they were in the Navy, and married in March 1946. His sisters Florence and Rose, and parents Elphage and Marion, also preceded him in death. Joe opened Hebert Insurance Agency in Sacramento, CA in 1965 and operated it until his death. He loved being able to assist his clients who also became friends. For many years he was considered one of the top agents and won numerous awards as well as trips around the world from insurance companies for his performance and stellar work. Until a few years ago, Joe was a member of Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, CA which he and Elaine joined in 1972. While at VHCC he served on the Board of Directors for several years and as its president. He joined the US Navy at 17 years old was a part of the landing force in Normandy, France on D-Day, June 6, 1944 making over 70 trips between his ship and Normandy Beach. In 1950, he was called back to active duty to serve for two years in the Korean conflict. He loved his country and served it with honor and dignity. He loved sports and was an avid follower of the Oakland, A's, Oakland Raiders and local golfers from the Sacramento area playing on the PGA Tour. He was also a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Grove. He will be remembered as an extremely generous person who loved his family and friends and was a hero as part of the Greatest Generation who fought valiantly in two wars. A memorial service on July 31, 2014 at 11:00am will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church located at 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road in Elk Grove, CA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Leukemia Society or the Scleroderma Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted in the care of The Carroll Family of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
