BLACK, Marie Joan
Born on August 4, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, passed unexpectedly on February 15, 2014 in Roseville, California at the age of 83 years. A Devoted Homemaker, Marie was an Elementary School Teacher for several years, having graduated from Ohio State University and Kent State University. She earned her Teaching Certificates in the states of Ohio, California and Hawaii. She was active in the ladies Guild at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Rocklin, member of the Sacramento Polka Boosters and the Ballroom Dance Group of Lincoln Hills. She enjoyed the monthly charter bus trips to Reno with the Knights of Columbus. She especially enjoyed her two annual trips to the Polka parties in Las Vegas. She enjoyed the musical productions at the Music Circus as well as the River Cats baseball games. Marie was affectionately known as the hat Lady - She always wore a hat, many of her hats were of her own unique design. Marie is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, George Black of Lincoln, CA, her children, Terence Black of San Jose, CA and Jennifer Tharp of San Francisco, CA, her brother, James Moore of FL. Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Moore. Friends and Family are welcome for viewing and Rosary on Monday February 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St Joseph's Church, 280 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln, CA. Private burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Sacramento, CA. Those able to attend are asked to wear purple, her favorite color and bring a hat.
