NICANOR, Jr., Manlapig Nick was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 12, 1924 to Nicanor Manlapig Sr. and Estella Treadway. After battling a long illness Nick passed away on June 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara, children: Russell, Phillip and wife Stacey, Elaine and husband Robert, Kenneth and wife Nancy, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Nick served in the US Armed Forces in Europe during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He rose to Staff Sergeant of the 347th Infantry Regiment, Company L and received the Bronze Star. He continued his military service as a Captain of the 184th Infantry Regiment, 49th Infantry Division, Company K of the California National Guard in Mount Shasta for 20 years. Nick was a co-owner of and retired as the Controller from Pacoast Chemical Company after 25 years. He had long career as a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 127. His service to the community continued with a commitment of 21 years as a volunteer for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department where he was awarded Honorary Member of the Sheriff's Association. Nick was an active member of Gloria Dei and St. Luke's Lutheran Church. His memorial service will be held at St. Luke's on Center Parkway at 1:00pm on July 12.
