DANA, Richard Henry
Richard Henry Dana was born on January 4, 1920, and passed away on January 9, 2014, at the age of 94. He was born to Richard Henry Dana and Evangeline Carreaga Dana in San Jose, California, and was raised on a ranch in Santa Maria, California. His college education was interrupted by World War II where he served in the 3rd Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star for distinguished service. After the war he completed his education at UC Davis and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. After college Richard embarked on a long and distinguished career in agriculture serving the State of California Dept. of Agriculture for over 30 years as a Principal Staff Biologist. Upon retirement he became an avid gardener, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and at the family ranch near Santa Maria. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine, by his daughter Joyce (Norm) Weil of Hillsborough, his son, Richard Henry Dana, Jr. of Los Alamos, and his grandchildren Ryan Dana, Alison Weil, and Benjamin Weil.
A Rosary service will be held Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00 pm at Harry A. Nuaman & Son Funeral Home, 4041 Freeport Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 15 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3159 Land Park Drive.
