WILLIS, Thomas J.
Thomas J. Willis, the youngest of ten sons born to Charlie Clark and Idella Francis Willis died in Sacramento, CA on June 18, 2014. Born in Chandler, AZ, Thomas graduated from Edison High School in Fresno, CA 1944 and promptly married his high school sweetheart, Delores Mae on August 26 of the same year. To that union two children were born, Paul and SJeanay.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and the US Air Force during the Korean War. He attained his college degree from American River College. His investment in community was displayed through his works with the Glen Elder Neighborhood Improvement Association, the Boy Scouts, 100 Black Men of America, Inc., and many more. He began a long and successful civil service career as an aircraft painter and administrator at McClellan AFB, retiring in 1981 to enjoy life with his beloved wife of 38 years. Delores passed away in September 1982.
Thomas remarried in September 1985 to wife, Jimmie Nell. They spent many years as San Francisco 49er football fans traveling to many Super bowl cities for the big games and hosted many memorable get-togethers for family and friends. Thomas is survived by his wife Jimmie Nell, son Paul and beloved daughter SJeanay; grandchildren Tiffani, Todd, Titania, Terrence, Toccara, Danielle, TJ, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Taren, Titus, Tomai, Donovan, Darrion and Skye; Goddaughter Laurel Cummings-Barnes and Godson Richard Simms; daughter-in-law Cecilia Whetton, and a host of nieces and nephews; his wife's daughters Carolyn and Rosalyn and her family Nicole & Michael King, Jr., grandchildren Keyara Peppars, A'Maya Rae King, and great-grandchild Rick-I Patterson. Thomas is predeceased by nine brothers, Robin, Wells, Frank, Ezekiel, Steve, Willie, James, Irving and Edward; and son-in-law Anthony D. 'Tony' Bolden.
Funeral arrangements handled by Thompson Rose Chapel, 3601 5th Avenue, Sacramento Viewing Tuesday, 3-7pm. Funeral is Wed. June 25, 2014 at 11am, New Hope Baptist Church, 3700 32nd St. Burial immediately following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Veterans area, 6700 21st Avenue. Sacramento 95820.
