WOOD, Virginia Grace (Schram)
Virginia Grace Wood was born January 30, 1925 and was deceased on July 12, 2013. She was the daughter of Ira Walter and Grace Ann Schram and was the fifth of their six children. All the children were born at home and raised on farms, near Newcastle, Nebraska. Virginia was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Carrol and Dean; and her sister, Imogene. She is survived by her brothers, Lloyd and Wilbur. She is also survived by her three children, Camille A. Wood, Valerie Y. Wood (Emil), and James I. Wood; her grandchildren, Heather (Strephon), Erica (Markus), Kizzy (Israel), and Justin (Erica). She also has many extended family members, mainly living in the Midwest. Virginia attended schools in Dixon County, Nebraska and graduated from Ponca High School in 1941, at the age of 16. She studied real estate and accounting in California. She obtained a California Real Estate License and had a career with the State of California, retiring in 1987 as an Accounting Officer. She was a long-time member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church of West Sacramento and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was very patriotic and donated to many Veterans groups. She was a Girl Scout leader, was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed traveling, taking photographs and competing in photograph contests, enjoyed many years of doing volunteer work, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She received many awards, certificates, and letters of commendation for her volunteer work. Volunteer work was performed mainly for the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, the former Towe Ford/Auto Museum, the former Sacramento Dixieland/Jazz Jubilee, and at several local elementary schools. She was musically inclined and especially enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Virginia tolerated life's circumstances very well, even during her debilitating illnesses. Her kind soul and spirit should always be remembered. In her honor, please be kind to one another and participate in volunteer work. At her request, burial will be at the Newcastle Cemetery in Nebraska. A graveside service will be held July 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
