William James Harris, Sr. was born on 12/31/1945 in in Belzoni, MI to the late Daniel W. Harris, Sr. and Mattie Harris. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1964, and then attended Sacramento City until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. William served in the Army through March of 1969. He then continued his education at Sac State, graduating in 1972
William met Laurel Sanderlin in 1969. They married 8/1/1970. Three children were born from this union. After serving as a CA State Police Officer for 17 yrs, William began a career that allowed him to serve children in the greater community. He became a teacher, working with children with autism - first in the DeKalb County (Georgia) School District, and then in the Dallas (Texas) Independent School District where he was working at the time of his passing.
William was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Alexander and Wilson Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Laurel; daughter, Ericka; sons, William Jr. and Sheldon (Christina); grandchildren, Sheldon Jr., Isaiah, Tyree, Imaree, and Curtis Emery; brothers, Daniel W. Harris, Jr., Roosevelt Harris, Louis V. Harris, and Thomas Harris; sisters, Josephine Harris and Charlesetta Brown (Gregory); aunt, Irene Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services were held Wed., Dec. 11, 2013 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Frisco, TX. Interment Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
