Albert Graham Miller

SALISBURY - Albert Graham Miller, 96, of 3345 Miller Rd., Salisbury, died July 20, 2013, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.

Mr. Miller was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Rowan County. He was the oldest son of the late Albert Mathias Miller and Sophie Graham Miller. He attended Rowan County Schools and graduated from the China Grove Farm Life High School. He studied auto mechanics at Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, Tenn. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Navy.

Mr. Miller was a lifelong farmer. His first off-farm employment was operating the cotton gin at Rowan Mills. He also served as a U.S. census taker, automobile salesman, mail carrier, retired after 13 years at Fiber Industry, and later was a security guard.

Mr. Miller was the oldest active member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities at the church. He was the oldest life member of the South Rowan FFA Alumni Association and was a member of the VFW. He formerly was active in the Rowan County Republican Party, serving as secretary-treasurer. He was also an avid NY Yankees fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant sister Mary Frances Miller, brother John R. (Jack) Miller, and first wife Jean Clark Miller.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Hazel C. Miller; daughters, Barbara Miller Collins, and Mary F. Miller; sons, Bruce L. Miller (Judy), Dudley A. Miller (Anita), and Richard E. Miller (Kelly), all of Salisbury; step-daughters Barbara H. Wilson (Martie) and Wanda H. Wise (Rick), both of China Grove; sister, Anna Catherine Miller Hedrick; brothers, G. Frank Miller, Joe E. Miller (Lucille), and James (Jim) L. Miller (Irene), all of Salisbury; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. Other times at the home of daughter, Barbara Miller Collins, 3465 Miller Rd., Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3020 Grace Church Rd., Salisbury, conducted by Pastor Jerome Cloninger. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
