Allen Woods Jr.

KANNAPOLIS - Allen Woods Jr., 81, of Locust Street, died at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord on May 4, 2013.

Mr. Woods was born on Sept. 22, 1931, in Darlington, S.C., the son of the late Edgar Allen Woods and the late Virginia Louise Outlaw Woods.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Lee Boone Woods, who died Nov. 28, 2012; three sons; and a brother.

Mr. Woods was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He moved to this area in 1982 from South Carolina and started working in the Spinning Room at Cannon Mills, retiring after 23 years of service. He was a member of Living Word Baptist Church in Kannapolis.

Mr. Woods is survived by a son, Johnny Woods of Patrick, S.C.; four daughters, Joyce Ann Watkins, Rhonda Woods Hancock, Donna Louise Hammonds and Loretta Rose Woods, all of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Webster and Brenda Wall, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a brother, Raymond Andrew Woods of Kingstree, S.C.

Service and Visitation: The funeral service will take place at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 conducted by Rev. Wayne Hall. Burial will follow at National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday, May 7 from 6-8 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence.
