Boyd Vernon Buckwell

ROCKWELL - Mr. Boyd Vernon Buckwell, 89, of Rockwell, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born Sept. 25, 1923, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Martin and Ollie Safrit Buckwell. A 1946 graduate of China Grove High School, he was a member of Organ Lutheran Church.

Mr. Buckwell was a destroyer sailor during World War II and served his country proudly. He enjoyed attending the Naval Ship Reunions with his shipmates of the USS Rhodes.

His career was with Duke Energy, where he served as a supervisor in the relay department. As an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing as much as possible.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Brown Buckwell; daughters Bonita Buckwell Miller (Raymond) of China Grove and Betina Buckwell Adams (Jeffrey) of Chesapeake, Va. He is also survived by sisters Gaynell Buckwell Bost (Bud) and Carolyn Buckwell Daugherty (Greer), both of China Grove. He had five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Organ Lutheran Church, with Rev. Carlin Ours, minister. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials: May be made to Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
