Charles 'Chick' P. Sherrill

SALISBURY - Charles "Chick" Price Sherrill, 83, of W. Monroe St., Salisbury, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at his residence.

Born Oct. 31, 1929 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Richard Wadsworth and Josephine Price Sherrill. He was the grandson of the late Dr. Joseph Charles Price and Jennie Smallwood Price. Dr. Price was the founder and first president of Livingstone College.

Charles graduated high school from Palmer Memorial Institute in Saladia. He attended Central College in Durham (now known as North Carolina Central University), but transferred to Livingstone College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree. He also attended graduate school at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

Mr. Sherrill was employed at the Bronx Psychiatric Hospital in New York as a recreational therapist for 25 years. After retiring from the hospital, he returned to Salisbury and was employed at the W. G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center until he retired the second time in 2001.

He was a Boyfriend of The Charlotte Chapter of The Girlfriends, Inc., Life member of the Livingstone College Local Alumni Chapter and a veteran of the United States Air Force. As a young man, he attended Moore's Chapel AME Zion Church.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie Louise Sherrill.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche B. Sherrill of the home; brother, Dr. Richard W. Sherrill, M.D. of Virginia Beach, Va. and wife Phyllis; one step-daughter, Stephanie S. Kennedy-Bey of Trenton, N.J.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law and friends.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. Military Rites and burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at the Salisbury National Cemetery with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St, with the Pastor, Rev. Stephen Haines, Officiating.
