GREENSBORO - Charles Edward Hux, 91, formerly of Greensboro, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at WG "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to the late Charlie Gardner Hux and Katie Morris Hux. Mr. Hux enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was injured while serving in China, Burma and India during World War II. He also served as a Master Sergeant in the NC National Guard for 14 years.
He was a minister, a past chaplain for DAV and VFW and served as a member of the Honor Guard. He was an amateur radio operator and a former pilot.
He volunteered for many years in sound and video production at his churches in Durham, Burlington and Greensboro.
Always a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Hux is survived by his wife of 70 years, Beatrice Holt Hux of Salisbury Gardens, Salisbury; a son, Kenneth E. Hux and wife Rebecca Hux of Canton, Ga.; daughter Carol Hux Burnett and spouse Edward G. Burnett, DDS of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Scott Hux and wife Melissa Hux of Waleska, Ga., Wendy Hux and partner Malissa Cook of Canton, Ga., Robin Hux of Canton, Ga., Matt Burnett and wife Misty Burnett of Charlotte and Laura Burnett Dortch of Greensboro; 14 great-grandchildren, Skyler Cyr, Payton Hux, Carter Hux, Parker Hux, Charlotte Hux, Cross Hux, Joshua Hux, Caleb Hux, Isiah Taylor, Landon Burnett, Brady Burnett, Jameson Dortch, Noah Dortch and Mariah Dortch. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Ruth Hocutt of Durham; sister-in-law Virginia Pierce of Henderson; brother-in-law LD Holt of Creedmoor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Greensboro, Mr. Hux and his family lived in Burlington and Durham.
The family would like to thank the staff of Forbis and Dick Funeral Home in Greensboro and that of the Medical Center, in particular those at Building 42-1 D for their exemplary care.
Service: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 at Salisbury National Cemetery.
