Donald Wilson Baucom

KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Donald "Gusher" Baucom, 75, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord after a period of declining health.

Mr. Baucom was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Union County, the son of the late C.W. Baucom and Leora Mauldin Baucom. He was a graduate of Concord Senior High School where he played football and baseball. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves where he served six years.

Don retired from the trucking industry after many years where he was a dispatcher for several companies including Johnson Motor Lines. He was a member of Kannapolis Church of God.

Mr. Baucom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Bentley Baucom; daughter Amy Baucom Gillon of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Scott Baucom and wife Sharon of Matthews and Ben and wife Jennifer of Kannapolis. His four grandchildren, Tyler, Riley Gayle, Nathan and Braden Baucom, were the light of his life.

Service: A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Kannapolis Church God. Rev. Sam Crisp and Pastor Barbara Watkins will officiate with Bob Mauldin adding special memories and remarks. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at Kannapolis Church of God prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home.
