Eddie B. Johnson

SALISBURY - Eddie B. Johnson, 81, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center of Salisbury.

He was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Peachland, the son of the late Zeb Johnson and Eve Malinda Polk Johnson.

After high school, Eddie entered the U.S. Army where he was a SP3. Eddie was a Korean War veteran; retired from the City of Salisbury as a Civil Engineer Surveyor; and was an avid volunteer. He was super patriotic, a part of the VFW and the Lutheran Home. Eddie was instrumental in the new VFW Building.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was instrumental in getting the extension of Salisbury National Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Rita Scholz Johnson on Dec. 31, 2010; and brothers and sisters Betty, Marie, Claude and Roy.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons Larry Johnson (Gail) of Jacksonville, Fla., Alan Johnson (Rhonda) of Wilmington and Ronny Johnson of Salisbury; grandchildren David Johnson (Melissa), Brittany Mason (Bill), Lauren Johnson, Madison Johnson; great-grandchildren Kalista Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Will Mason Jr., Jillian Johnson Rhylan Johnson and Zoey Mason; and brother Jack Johnson of Granite Quarry.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul's Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146

Service: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul's Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146, with the Rev. William Ketchie officiating. Burial to follow at 11 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
