SALISBURY - Mrs. Helen Collins Hager, 89, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.
Born Aug. 21, 1924, in Iredell County to the late Grace Troutman Collins and John Arch Collins, she was a graduate of Troutman High School. She worked at Burlington Industries and then was a bus driver for Rowan Salisbury Schools for 27 years.
Mrs. Hager was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1962. She was a member of the Daisy Hedrick Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women where she was a past President and volunteer coordinator of the Bereavement Committee for many years. She helped as an usher, greeter and served on the Administrative Board as well as many other church committees.
Mrs. Hager also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, at Salisbury Rotary Club and served on the Rowan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary where she was a past President.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert W. Hager, on Nov. 8, 2006; daughter Pamela Kay Hager Bass; grandson Thomas Lee Pearce II; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving is son R. Wayne Hager and wife Robin of Salisbury; daughter Debra H. Pearce and husband Thomas of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Wayne Hager and Elizabeth Ashley Pearce; and great-grandchildren, Faith Denise Hager and Gabriel O. Pearce. Also surviving are her special friends, Cherrathee Hager, Stacy Pierce, Dawn Hager, and "her girls."
The family wishes to give special thanks to her in-home caregivers, her special friends and family from First United Methodist Church for their support and kindness; and the wonderful staff at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.
Visitation: Visitation from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, will be held in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Service: A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Haines officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
